Broken bones
On Tuesday, I got a pretty scary call from Mandy. She was VERY upset, and said she had some bad news. She told me that she thought that something was wrong with Avery's arm. Avery tried to run off when Mandy told her she couldn't run in the parking lot. Well, when Avery heard the word "no", she decided to throw herself onto the concrete....nice...I know.
She has done this to me a few times on occasion, so I knew exactly what she had done. I immediatly thought that she would probably be fine, and to just wait and see for a couple of hours, then I heard her cry. By chance I was in the OR with an orthapeadic surgeon. Mandy brought Avery up to TOPS where he did and xray, but really couldn't tell if anything was broken, because she is so small. He said just to watch her overnight, and if she wasn't using it, and looked in pain bring her to his office where he could do real xrays in the morning. I wasn't really sure what to do, but the next morning I decided to bring her in anyway. Well, I am sure glad I did, because he thinks she fractured her left radial head (one of the bones in your elbow). Our said he normally would have put it in a cast, but since I work in the OR he said he could splint it, that was we could try to avoid stinky cast. If she is able to keep it on, then she doesn't have to have a cast. This way, I can take it off after it gets rank, and put a new one on, yeah!
I feel so lucky that I work with such great people, we got the situation under control fast, and my poor baby isn't in pain anymore. He said the cast wasn't really to heal it, but only to protect her weakened bone, and immobilize it, which makes it feel better. So....we have three weeks with a splint on.
I took this pic after our first "sponge" bath. It actually went better than I thought. She came out pretty clean, and I was even able to wash her hair.
I told her to show me her cast
Since then, she has really been living it up. On Wednesday, Mandy treated her to Build-a-bear, and today she had cookie cake for breakfast. I am sure once the grandma's get a hold of her, it will really be on.

Just hanging around...
Well, not too much went on this week in the Ash household. It was nice to just relax this weekend. Between working at St. Joe's and Brian's hunting trip, I was exhausted. I did get to take a nice shopping trip to the Nutcracker Market with my mom and sister on Saturday. I look forward to it ALL year, and this year was pretty successful. It really got me in the Christmas spirit. I have already made my list, and am ready for Black Friday!
